Lines of Light: The Art of Poetry

  • TIME ZONE 6-8pm MST ONLINE (ZOOM) (map)

Join me for a 6 Week Workshop Series where we will explore Poetry through an inspiring online poetry circle.

Each session is curated to explore and foster a writing community and your own creativity, giving you tools for close reading, critiquing and playing with poetry on and off the page.

We offer a warm, welcoming space where participants can explore and share their poetic voice and develop confidence. With learning to give and receive kind and respectful feedback, using critique models based on Felicia Rose Chavez’s Anti Racist Writers Workshop and Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process, you’ll leave uplifted and ready to take your poetry to the next level.

  • In this workshop, participants will develop a greater sensitivity to poetry. They will learn inspiring critique techniques and close reading practices tailored to both drafts and finished poems. Through this supportive process, participants will gain the following:

  • They say the devil is in the details, but we believe details are delicious. By learning some close-reading techniques of the "why" poets do things, we can create a greater appreciation and understanding taking us to beyond words on the page and into an experience.

  • Confidence comes when we feel safe to play. This workshop is committed to creating a safe and playful atmosphere dedicated to making connections and community.

  • Writing poetry is a very personal experience filled with deep listening and exploration of YOUR reality. This is a space where you will get encouraged to be real with yourself, be real with your voice… and be celebrated for who you are.

  • They say to write, you must read read read… but poets read with a unique eye called “close reading”. We will give you a toolbox that you can bring to any poem that will help you understand the craft it was created with so you can in turn play with your own style, writing and voice.

Why poetry? Exploring poetry with Sivani has enriched my life by expanding my vocabulary, bringing meaning and beauty to everyday language. It’s expanded the way I notice and interact with daily life - offering a chance to slow down and become curious about everything from a gently falling leaf to the soft wrinkles in a kind face.
